What It Is

Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition is an insanely addictive game in which you mine for materials then build items out of those materials. You can build whatever your imagination can create, as long as you imagine in 16-bit because the game has a retro, block-style look. There are no missions or goals. However, there are monsters that come out at night and can wreak havoc. So whatever you build, make sure it keeps you safe at night.

Is It Fun?

This is a true sand-box game, in which you are plopped in the middle of a vast world and are free to do whatever you want. The easiest materials to mine are dirt and sand, which can then be used to build structures as large and complex as you want. There are many materials like sand, that when placed in an oven (which you have to build) will be smelted into a different substance. A block of sand becomes a block of glass.

The game includes a two-player split-screen feature so two people can work together. There is also an online co-op feature that allows up to four people to visit a friend’s world via an Xbox Live account.

Who It’s For

Minecraft is rated E10+. However, there is nothing in the game that could be considered questionable for the youngest gamers in your house. The “10+” rating is strictly due to the “Fantasy Violence”, which refers to the monsters that try to kill you at night. If you are killed, there is no blood, gore or violent battle, and you can instantly return to the game.

There is no winning or losing in Minecraft, which makes this a great game for players of any age who are looking for a casual and creative game experience.

What To Be Aware Of

This is the Xbox edition of the game that has been available on PC for a while now. Most PC users will say that this edition is less advanced and provides a smaller world.

I wasn’t exaggerating when I called Minecraft addictive. Everyone that I know who is playing this game (myself included) will quickly tell you that they can’t stop playing.

Minecraft Xbox Edition is available exclusively as a download through Xbox Live.

Repeat Play

You can spend days and weeks just mining for materials in this game then countless hours constructing buildings and structures. Most people playing this game will play almost every day and since it is completely open-ended, there is limit to the amount of times you can return to play.
