What It Is
Girls Xoomy is a portable device that lets kids create illustrations by tracing images and designs. Inside the compact Xoomy case is a light bulb, or zoom lamp, as the company calls it. Open the case and place an image pattern on top of the zoom lamp mount, turn on the lamp, and close the Xoomy case. The image will then be projected onto the drawing surface. You can adjust the lamp to make the image smaller or larger. Slide a blank sheet of paper onto the drawing surface and begin tracing the image. (Don't press too hard on the drawing surface or you may damage or scratch it.) Once your drawing is finished, remove the paper from the screen and add some color using colored pencils, sold separately. Everything fits inside the Xoomy case for easy cleanup and storage.
Girls Xoomy comes with a compact drawing case and adjustable zoom lamp, a glare shield, 20 image patterns, 10 sheets of drawing paper, a felt-tip pen, and instructions.
Is It Fun?
Essentially, this is a tracing machine. Kids like being able to trace an image and then color it in for use in a variety of ways, such as creating cards or stationery. Because they're tracing, the results are a little more polished than if they were drawing freehand, and so the creative process can be more satisfying for them.
Who It’s For
Girls Xoomy is for ages 7 and up. It will mostly appeal to girls who like arts and crafts projects and creating things like cards rather than creating whole works of art.
What To Be Aware Of
Girls Xoomy requires four AA batteries, which are not included.
Girls Xoomy is operated with a max 2.4 W krypton glass bulb. After many hours of use, the bulb may burn out. It can be replaced.
Also available is a Boys Xoomy.
