What It Is

What It Is

The History Over Time Puzzles feature landmarks and cities from around the world. But these puzzles aren't flat—they're 4-D. The puzzles use a patented three-layer puzzle design. Layers one and two assemble together to form a geographical map of the city (streets, roads, railways, parks). The third layer adds dimension to the puzzle with buildings and other three-dimensional landmarks. And then there is a fourth dimension: time. Using the Time Poster, puzzlers locate and place each building on the map according to the year it was built. As you work your way through the Time Poster, you are placing each building in chronological order, as if history is happening before your eyes. The year of the last building placed on the map represents the year you are in the puzzle.

The City of New York puzzle recreates Manhattan's famous skyline, spanning 201 years of architectural history. The puzzle includes 120 plastic building replicas that depict the city as it appeared as far back as 1812 through to 1971 with the addition of the World Trade Towers and into the future to 2013 with the completion of the One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower). The puzzle includes iconic structures such as the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the United Nations. The buildings fit into pre-cut holes in a traditional, flat jigsaw puzzle that forms the city's street layout and islands. The Time Poster guides you through time as you rebuild New York's skyline history.
