What It Is

Fisher-Price's sports line I Can Play Sports introduces young kids to a variety of sports through realistic toys designed just for them—taking into account their developing physical and cognitive abilities. I Can Play Drop 'n Drive Golf is a simple golf set that lets kids hit a golf ball off a tee, which engages and helps them develop hand-eye coordination. The club's oversized head makes it easier for preschool kids to hit the ball.

The self-contained components of the set are easy for kids to use. Place the pop-up tee on the ground. Step on the pedal to pop up the tee, then press the button on the club's handle to drop a golf ball onto the tee. Release the pedal to set the ball and swing the club. To pick up the golf balls, simply place the club on top of them and push down. The balls slip right up into the club, and all three balls fit inside the club at once. The pop-up tee snaps onto the club for take-along fun. There is also a keyhole hanger on the back for easy wall storage.

I Can Play Drop 'n Drive Golf comes with a golf club, three balls, and a pop-up tee. There is a blue and red set for that will primarily appeal to boys and a pink and purple set that will primarily appeal to girls. Each is sold separately.

Why It’s Fun

This is a great introductory golf set for young kids. It can help kids with hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills. It also helps little kids feel big, as they engage in an activity they see bigger kids and adults do but in a way that's appropriate for them and at which they can feel successful. (One of the main reasons kids walk away from sports toys is that they get frustrated that they can't do it. Fisher-Price has designed a set that takes into account the physical stage of these younger kids.) While it may not turn your child into a golf fanatic, it may be a great way to instill a love of active play early on. This is a great basic toy that parents will appreciate because it will get kids moving and having fun.

Who It’s For

I Can Play Drop 'n Drive Golf is for ages 3—6.

What to Be Aware of

This isn't a toy that will teach your child the rules of golf and how to be the next Phil Mickelson. It's more mini golf than PGA Championship—and it's as much about the roleplay of engaging in a grown-up activity as it is about the sport. As mentioned above, it introduces kids to the game of golf at an appropriate level and can help with motor development.
