What It Is
What It Is
Toddlers are fascinated with buckles, whether on a diaper bag or a highchair. BuckleyBoo toys give kids a new way to play with buckles through its line of buckled-up animal characters. According to the manufacturer, these stuffed animals are designed to encourage cognitive development through multi-stage learning. In other words, kids actually can develop some basic skills by buckling and unbuckling—and they can do it in a context that's not, say, releasing oneself from the car seat or the high chair.
At 18 months, the earliest age recommended for the toy, children are ready to buckle, but are still not able to unbuckle, so for the full effect of BuckleyBoo, the parent and child should play together. By age 3, children will have both the physical strength and the ability to buckle and unbuckle, as well as engage in imaginative play with their BuckleyBoo character. Each character also has a rattle inside.
The BuckleyBoo line includes a variety of animal characters including BuckleyCat, BuckleyBunny, and BuckleyMonkey in both three-buckle and five-buckle versions.
Why It’s Fun
BuckleyBoo toys do introduce kids to visual matching, fine motor skills, and problem solving. The plush characters are cute, soft, and cuddly, and little fingers love exploring buckles and the cause-and-effect of releasing and snapping the buckles.
Who It’s For
BuckleyBoo toys are for ages 18 months and up.
What to Be Aware of
The buckles are made of plastic.
Older children may find the play pattern a bit limiting, and it may be confusing for younger children to be encouraged to open the buckles on the toy and then be discouraged from opening buckles on car seats, the diaper bag, etc.
