What It Is
What It Is
LEGO is introducing a new themed line called Ninjago. The story behind this new line of building sets involves four young ninjas who must master the art of Spinjitzu, one of the lost martial arts, to save the world from the evil Lord Garmadon and his skeleton army. This new hybrid play theme combines all of the building and roleplay of traditional LEGO themes with an exciting new social gaming experience that mirrors the art of ninja spinning to defeat the enemies.
One of the new playsets in the Ninjago line is Garmadon's Dark Fortress. This 518-piece set comes with six minifigures, including ninjas Kai and Nya, and several surprises: there are figures that pop up, a spider that pops off the front of the fortress, and missile shooters on top of the fortress. Kids can also play online at Ninjago.com.
Why It’s Fun
This cool building set of martial arts meets skeletons will really capture kids' imaginations. It's more than just a stationary playset. There's a lot of action going on and kids have a hand in building that action. This is great open-ended, imaginative play.
Who It’s For
This playset, with its spiders and skeletons, will appeal to boys. (Although there is a female character in this playset, which some girls might find cool.) The recommended age is 8 and up.
What to Be Aware of
With more than 500 pieces in this building set, Garmadon's Dark Fortress takes a long time to put together. Make sure you follow the illustrated instructions and set aside a few hours to assemble. Younger kids may need help from parents.
"Spinjitzu" is a term that LEGO created to serve as a basis for battling top play. Top sets and additional minifigures are sold separately.
For kids who want to learn the "backstory" of this property and play some cool, free video games, they can find all of that and more online at LEGO.com
