Overall Editor's Rating

What It Is

Hunters of the Great Forest by Dennis Nolan is a wordless picture book about a band of tiny explorers who leave their village one day on a quest through the forest. They encounter several obstacles-a hungry bird, an irritated chipmunk-but end up reaching their destination to bring back a special delicious treasure to the other villagers.

Is It Fun?

The illustrations in this book are delightful, with lots for young readers to explore. The absence of text encourages kids to use the pictures as clues for what is happening and then narrate the story accordingly. Kids can even change the story each time they read the book, which is great for keeping their imaginations' active. With only pictures to tell the story, this is also a nice way to get reluctant readers interested in reading.

Who It’s For

Hunters of the Great Forest is for ages 3-7.
