What It Is
The John Deere Monster Treads Radio Control Gator is an all-terrain R/C vehicle that can stand on its rear bumper, spin, and roll over. The remote control has two joysticks for driving the Gator forward and backward, and turning left or right either forward or backward. To perform the wheelie stunt, send the vehicle in reverse and then quickly change direction to forward. Keep pressing forward on the joystick to make the Gator spin on its bumper. Snap on the rollover bar to perform the rollover stunt. Again, send the vehicle in reverse and then quickly change direction to forward to watch the Gator roll over. The remote has three channels so that three kids can play with their Gators together without crossing signals.
Is It Fun?
While the stunts are fun to watch, they can be hard to execute, especially the rollover stunt. The vehicle did travel well, though, and kids will like that they can drive it over different terrains indoors and outdoors. However, the remote has to be about 20 feet away from the vehicle in order for it to work, not 50 feet as the package claims.
Who It’s For
The John Deere Monster Treads Radio Control Gator is for ages 6 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
This toy requires six AAA batteries and one 9V battery, which are not included. Kids will get about 45 minutes of continuous play from new batteries.
You will need to inflate the vehicle's tires using a hand sports ball pump, not included. It does come with a template so that you can continually monitor the tire size to make sure they are fully inflated for best performance.
The directions say that the remote and vehicle work from a range of up to 50 feet, but our vehicle stopped responding to the remote from only 20 feet away.
Both stunts are supposed to be performed outdoors only, but we're not really sure why.
