What It Is
Bow-Wow's Nightmare Neighbors is a wordless picture book by Mark Newgarden and Megan Montague Cash. The pictures tell the story of Bow-Wow the dog as he tries to get back his stolen dog bed from the ghost cats living in the scary mansion across the street. As Bow-Wow wanders through the mansion, going up the stairs and down secret passageways, the ghost cats keep biting Bow-Wow's tail to scare him off. The dog bed is teal, and there are many times that Bow-Wow thinks he's found the dog bed only to have actually found a teal dress or teal toilet seat. When he does finally find his dog bed, he also finds something that seems really scary but is actually very helpful and kind.
Is It Fun?
With only pictures to tell the story, this book is a nice way to get even the most reluctant readers interested in reading. The book encourages kids to use the pictures to determine what's going on, and then narrate the story accordingly. Kids can even change the story each time they read the book, which is great for keeping their imaginations active.
Who It’s For
Bow-Wow's Nightmare Neighbors is for ages 4-8.
