EDITOR'S REVIEW
OVERALL EDITOR'S RATING:
What It Is

Neighborhood Sharks, from Roaring Book Press and written by Katherine Roy, is a 48-page book for shark fans as well as those interested in simply learning more about these giant sea predators. Most people both fear and admire the great white sharks' fierce hunting skills, and this book gives you a deeper inside look into those skills-starting from their hunting grounds off the California Coast line. This is a science-oriented read that takes readers through all the details about what Great Whites want/need to eat, what attracts them to their prey, how they move through the water, and more. It also discusses how scientists lure these great beasts in to tag and track their movements.

Is It Fun?

Overall this book gives readers an up-close look at these natural predators. However, although the book is beautifully illustrated with water-color style pictures, they can be a bit graphic at times and even frightening for a young child. In addition the text can be a bit dry, so we think it's best suited for educational reading or die-hard shark fans.

Who It’s For

Neighborhood Sharks is for ages 7 and up.
