What It Is

With the Felted Friends activity kit from Klutz, kids can create their very own fuzzy, felted animal pals. The kit comes with a 52-page guide book to craft five different felted animals, six colors of 100 percent natural wool roving, a specialized needle-felting tool, and a foam surface to work on.

The first few pages of the book provide helpful tips on how to work the wool and use different techniques to create different effects. For the base/body of every animal, tear off the indicated amount of wool then roll it up tightly like a sleeping bag. To tear the wool, grab either side of the spot you want to tear at and pull. Roll it up, place it on the foam surface and begin poking it and using your fingers to shape it.

Is It Fun?

Klutz is known for its craft kits for kids that offer an easy-to-follow process to achieve highly detailed results, and this kit is no different. The felted animals, once complete, are adorable and ready for play or display. This is, however, a craft that requires a lot of focus especially when working with such a sharp tool.

Who It’s For

Although this kit is age graded 10 and up, because of the attention to detail required, in part to avoid injury, we think it's better suited for older DIYers ages 12 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

The needle-felting tool is extremely sharp so you'll need to be extra mindful as you use it. When poking and prodding your felted friends, go slowly because it's very easy to slip and accidentally poke yourself.

It can be a bit tricky to get the sizes right for your animals but the helpful illustrations are about the size you'll want your animal to be.
